Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria. With a population with more than one million people is the biggest city in the country.

History of Sofia

Thee area has a history of more than 5.000 years. Main attraction of the city are the hot water springs that still flow abundantly in the centre of the city.

The city was conquered from the Phlipp II, king of the Greek Macedonian kingdom at 339 BC. Romans conquered the city at 29 BC and established the colonial city of Serdica. After that the city was conquered from different owners with most notable in the year 809 in which the First Bulgarian Empire was established.

The most important date for the city, and for the country, was the 10. November 1989 in which Bulgaria was not any more part of the communist Russia.
