What to do there
As far as the city itself there are some places you can visit as for example the Old City Hall in the center of the Town.
Then you can visit the Handwerksmuseum that is a museum dedicated in different forms of hand tools that the people were using in different periods in the past. The museum operates from Tuesday to Sunday and also in public holidays.
What the Deggendorf is most known is for the wonderful Bavarian Forest that is located east from the town. Don’t miss to take a hiking around Deggendorf. One of my favourite route was Deggendorf / Greising / Tannenberg.
What to eat there
Deggendorf is recognized as the capital of Knödel (Dumplings). Made from a sponge cake dough mixed with whipped cream. Filled with tangerines or peaches, they are then rolled in coconut flakes before being enchanted by locals and visitors as sweet delicacies. The dumplings are now available in many other variations: from hearty sausage dumplings for a snack to elegant pralines. Deggendorf is one of the 100 particularly award-winning places in Bavaria as far as the Knödel.
Where to stay there
I highly recommend the Hotel Donauhof in Deggendorf. A three stars hotel, very clean with very polite staff and a very nice breakfast option.
